Assistance for Bay Area Scots in Need

Welcome to the Saint Andrew’s Society of San Francisco, where tradition meets modern-day support. With a legacy dating back to 1863, our Society remains steadfast in our commitment to serving our community, offering assistance to those who need it most. We have continued our commitment through the Saint Andrews Society Foundation.

Meet Gareth Gaston, Our Board of Relief Chairman

Our Mission: Providing Assistance Where It’s Needed

At the Saint Andrew’s Society, our mission is clear: to provide financial and emotional support to members of the Scottish community in the Bay Area facing hardships. Through our Relief Committee, led by Gareth Gaston, we offer a range of assistance to eligible individuals, including but not limited to:

  • Financial Assistance: The Relief Committee provides financial aid to Scottish Americans in Northern California who are in dire need.
  • Coordination with Partners: The Committee collaborates closely with the British Benevolent Society of California (BBS), who works with the British Consulates in San Francisco and Los Angeles to ensure comprehensive support for Scottish Nationals in various circumstances, including repatriation, emergency documents, hospitalization, victims of crime, adult and child welfare, funeral services, administrative formalities, and more.
  • Funeral Piper Service: Longstanding and Life Members of the Saint Andrews Society of San Francisco can apply to have a piper at their funeral, providing a meaningful tribute to honor their Scottish heritage.
  • Case Management: The Relief Committee carefully reviews each Relief case, ensuring that assistance is provided to those who qualify. The committee follows principles to determine eligibility and qualification for relief, maintaining sensitivity to the individual’s circumstances.
