The Coopers Bagpipers In Crissy Fields

The Coopers play “Scotland the Brave” near Golden Gate Bridge.

Join us for a celebration of Scotland’s National Bard, Robbie Burns and our Scottish heritage at the annual Burns Supper. This year we will be celebrating slightly differently in a virtual setting bringing the haggis directly to your door. The evening will be filled with poetry, music, dance, and song to acknowledge the Robert Burns’s impact on Scottish cultural arts while honoring contemporary literary arts and Scottish women’s contributions in the modern era.

Gerda Stevenson

This year we will have our featured artist, Gerda Stevenson. Gerda is a writer, actor, director, singer, and songwriter. Gerda works in theatre, television, radio, film, and opera, throughout Britain and abroad. Her poetry, drama and prose are widely published, staged and broadcast, including plays for BBC Radio 4.

Winner of a BAFTA Best Film Actress award for Margaret Tait’s feature film, BLUE BLACK PERMANENT, and appeared as the Murren’s mother in BRAVEHEART. Her books include INSIDE & OUT – the art of Christian Small (Scotland Street Press, 2019), with an introduction and poems by Gerda, reviewed in The National as “One of the most beautiful books ever published in Scotland”; and EDINBURGH, a collaboration with landscape photographer Allan Wright, for which she wrote a personal introduction and 22 poems. Quines by Gerda Stevenson, 2nd Edition 2020

Quines by Gerda Stevenson, 2nd Edition 2020

Her recent publication, QUINES: Poems in tribute to women of Scotland, “brings together a diverse array of Scottish women – politicians, queens, a salt seller, a half-hanged woman, scientists, writers and artists, singers, a dancer, a fish-gutter and others” in a celebration of female Scottish literary often unsung heroes.

Gerda will illustrate Robert Burns’ impact on contemporary literary arts through speech and song in her soothing and musical style.
