About Dr Gordon Pentland:

Dr. Gordon Pentland is a Reader in History at the University of Edinburgh, specialising in the political history of Britain since the French Revolution. A native of Edinburgh, he did his undergraduate degree at Oxford and MSc and PhD at the University of Edinburgh. After a brief stint as a lecturer in European history at the University of York he returned to Edinburgh in 2006 to take up a two-year Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship before becoming a lecturer, senior lecturer, and reader. In 2013, Dr Pentland was awarded the Royal Society of Edinburgh’s (RSE’s) Thomas Reid Medal, an early career honour, named for the 18th century philosopher who played an important role in the Scottish Enlightenment.
